Steve/Tony recs, for sawickies. These are grouped vaguely by length, but are otherwise in no particular order.

Long

In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned by Nick Fury) by scifigrl47

Summary:Steve takes things like personal responsibility and respect seriously. Tony's got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he's pretty sure that he's going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy's still a little spotty about what is 'clean' enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick.

And some things shouldn't be a chore.

Notes: This series is not without its problems, but it's long (about 350k across 7 fics, and that's not even including the "casefiles", a series of shorter fics that fit into the main series), highly enjoyable, and also the source of like, 90% of MCU and Stony fanon. If you read fic with Avengers movie nights, for example - this is the fic that made that popular. Also, it has a depiction of Clint/Coulson that is really believable and wonderful.

“No,” Tony said, his voice firm. “No. I pay for a cleaning crew to come in and handle this, just pick up your dirty underwear off of the kitchen table and stop shoving empty cookie boxes underneath the couch when there is a perfectly good trash can like five feet away, and yes, Thor, I know that one was you and-”

“There was underwear on the table?” Steve said, and the tone had a heavy dose of 'what the hell is wrong with you people?' that he was too polite to put into words. “Who put underwear on the kitchen table?”

“I didn't check it for a name label, Steve,” Tony snapped. “I don't know, and I don't care, I'm just saying that we can do this without having to humiliate ourselves in front of visitors by having a chart on the goddamn wall like we're all wearing shorts and hats that say 'Happy Funtime Fuckitall Camp' on the front.”

(First Impressions Are) A Work in Progress by ras_elased

Summary: Tony has a point system for the times he can get Steve to be less than perfect.

Notes: One of those delightful fics written just after the first Avengers, where Steve and Tony are just getting to know each other with a lot of antagonism and hidden angst.

"JARVIS," Tony says, "make a personal note. This is why we can't have nice things."

There's a long pause which Tony knows is more because JARVIS wants to make a point than out of any need for processing time. "And is Captain Rogers a nice thing, sir?"

Tony sighs and says the next words mostly to himself. "Yes. A very nice thing."

Mr July by jibralis

Summary: Tony is the only one who can defend Steve's virtue. Tony hates his life.

Notes: Basically there's an evil league that's like STEVE IS PRETTY AND MUST BE NAKED and dedicates themselves to ripping off his costume. Delightful. Actually, everything by this author is great, so to avoid reccing like 8 things by them I'll just say: they're great, read everything they've written.

“I mean slut in a completely flattering way!” Tony added, but it was too late. Steve was already making a face and turning back to his breakfast.

“That’s not a very nice thing to say,” he said.

“Some of my best friends are sluts,” Tony said.

“That doesn’t make me feel better,” Steve said, and sighed.

Semaphore by DevilDoll

Summary: "I’m trying to like you, Tony. You’re just making it very hard."

Notes: Another really influential Stony fic. I really like a couple things about it - notably that Tony/Pepper is actually mentioned and ended within the story, and it isn't just like "alright well whatever moving on!" It can be pretty hit or miss in terms of characterization (I think it was actually written right before Avengers came out), though, especially Bruce, who's basically a nonentity in this fic.

"I really don’t need—" Steve starts, but Tony cuts him off.

"Seriously," he says, and he is serious, which hardly ever happens. "Everyone else is there. You should be there."

Steve sighs, more heavily than a guy who's just been asked to move into the greatest house in New York should. He looks like he’s going to say no again.

"Keep your apartment," Tony tells him. "Go there as much as you want. We’re not asking you to join a cult."

When he still hesitates, Tony wiggles his phone at him and brings out the big guns: "Don’t make me call Natasha."

"Okay," Steve says. "I’ll move in."

Ready, Fire, Aim by gyzym

Summary:There's no "I" in "Avenger."

Notes: Another really great early-days antagonism fic, complete with lots of Tony Stark Issues™.

“Look, Rogers, you want teammates or whatever, fine, great, you’ve got a whole gaggle of SHIELD cronies waiting to bust out their guitars and sing Kumbaya with you, have fun, but I told you, I don’t play well with others, okay? So you and your…apology or whatever, you can just go, I don’t need you to do me any fucking favors.”

Steve stares at him with his mouth open for a long minute. Then he says, “What’re you—no, you know what, I don’t care. Fine. If that’s the way you want this to be, that’s just fine with me. Have a lovely evening, Mr. Stark.”

“Fine!” says Tony. “Good! Great! I will!”

“And turn down that racket,” Steve yells over his shoulder, storming down the stairs, “I can hear it from all the way up the street!”

“AC/DC IS NOT RACKET,” Tony…well, yeah, okay, he screams it, before slamming the door on Steve’s rapidly retreating back.

“I believe that could have gone better, sir,” says Jarvis.

“Captain America is a dick,” says Tony, “and I want that written on my fucking tombstone.”

The Twice-Told Tale by arysteia

Summary: For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.

Notes: Another early-days antagonism fic! (If you can't tell, this is one of my and fandom's favorite variety of fics.) This one with bonus time-travel weirdness. Hard to explain without spoiling it, so just go read it!

He stirs to the sound of shattering reinforced glass, and the unmistakeable clang of Captain America’s shield hitting the concrete floor. Steve’s hands are roaming fierce and frantic all over him, pulling off the last remaining pieces of the armour, and then his fingers skirt the reactor, press at the pulse in his neck, finally find what they’re looking for, and even with his eyes closed Tony can feel him slump in exhausted relief.

“Hey,” he manages to croak.

“Oh, my God, Tony,” Steve says, and he sounds truly desperate.

Tony forces his gritty eyes open. Steve’s got the cowl down, and his face is bone white, every trace of colour gone.

“I’m okay,” he says quickly, “I’m okay.”

The Last Love Song of Anthony E. Stark by jibralis

Summary: After contracting an Asgardian virus, Tony starts forgetting things. And people. And Steve.

Notes: I said I was only gonna rec one thing by this author, but that was obviously a blatant lie! Anyway this fic is long, plotty, and angsty, with bonus Asgardian worldbuilding.

I'm forgetting, he thinks.

I'm forgetting, he thinks.

I'm sick, he thinks, his skin prickling in goosebumps. This is worse than being held captive by the Ten Rings, because this is his own body turned traitor on him, and there's no Yinsen here to be his calm and reasonable ally, no villagers to save except himself. His arc reactor seems to grow heavier and heavier inside the cage of his chest, and Tony winces, clutching at himself, feeling his breath come out in quick, sharp bursts.

Someone to Love by blue_jack

Summary: What does it matter that it’d been because of Loki and his damn magic? He’d fallen in love with Steve once. He can do it again.

Notes: FEEEEEEELINGS.

Tony is happy.

Like disgustingly so. Like there should be music on in the background and cute little chicks and bunnies should be running around his feet, that’s how happy he is.

He’s kind of making himself sick, and he’s sure it can’t last, but what the hell. He’s happy, and it’s all because of Steve.

Medium/Short

Be No Stranger by jibralis

Summary: That's the twenty-first century love song, baby. Glitz and glamour and every one of us is a liar.

Notes: YEP ANOTHER ONE BY JIBRALIS. But it's so amazing, I had to rec it. This is a deliciously emotional fic where Steve is traveling in time and Tony is trying to find him.

You don't ever tell me anything about you, Steve had said, and now it's Tony's heart, lungs, muscles being exposed, his history unspooling in threads over the floor, spilling everywhere, water and music and fever-regret.

This is how it follows, like this: Tony builds, and Steve swings and knocks it all down.

These Promises Broken by missbecky

Summary: "Tony, even if you don't go talk to him, you have to face the fact that your father – or at least some version of him – is on this ship right now. This is happening. Whether you want it or not."

Notes: OH HI I HEARD YOU LIKE ANGST. In this fic a parallel universe version of Howard Stark appears, and Tony has a lot of emotions to deal with.

Here, surrounded by row upon row of computers and servers, there was no one to see as he leaned forward, bracing both arms on the back of a chair. No one saw him bow his head and close his eyes. No one saw him fight for breath, or tremble minutely.

Howard Stark.

Here. Alive.

What a sick fucking joke.

a higher form of war by gdgdbaby

Summary:The first thing that occurs to Tony is that the deflector shields are down. The ship is motionless, a sitting duck—a flying duck, as it were.

He jettisons up. His black pirate flag's peppered with bits of neon paint—in fact, the entire topside of the helicarrier is splattered haphazardly with broken pellets and streaks of color. The UN flag's been torn in half and is fluttering half-mast, which means they're probably breaking about ten different maritime laws.

Notes: Paintball! Crack! I think this is actually based on an episode of Community.

Tony can hear the battle echoing behind them far after they've run out of range. He raises his hand on Level 2 and bends over, panting, drops his suit on the ground. "You okay?" Steve asks, ever-present concern in his voice. "Hey—" he points at a pink patch on Tony's undershirt. "You've been hit!"

Tony presses his fingertips to the stain and winces. They come back red. "It's not paint. It's blood."

"Oh," Steve says. "Thank God."

be angry at the sun for setting by minarchy

Summary: Tony called Pepper, his own personal psychic, and she promptly informed him that yes, angels are entirely asexual on account of them not having physical forms but instead having to possess those of others, and wait a second, does this mean that you're in love with an angel oh my God, Tony, what does -

Notes: SUPERNATURAL CROSSOVER. Steve is an angel and Tony is a hunter and everything is magical and nothing hurts.

He squinted at his all-American idiot of a saviour.

"What are you?" he asked, because that was always the more important question.

"An angel of the Lord," the idiot said.

"Fuck off," Tony said, and promptly fainted.

Things to do in New Jersey when you're dead by dorcas_gustine

Summary: Tony misses Steve. Tony brings Steve back. There's something wrong.

Notes: I forgot to put this on the list at first because I am a fool. This fic is so great, quietly weird and unsettling and just wonderful.

“What the hell are you playing at?” he asked. “What’s with you suddenly talking in code? What’s with all the mysterious looks?”

Steve shrugged his hand away. “I should be asking you the same thing,” he said.

Tony blinked at him. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“No, you don’t,” Steve shook his head.

PWP

Don't Look Too Closely (All the Angles are Oblique) by shaenie

Summary: “I’m removing Captain Rogers from this base, but not from active duty. I want him as SHIELD’s liaison to Stark Industries first and foremost. He’ll report directly to me,” Fury says. “As it is, your identity as Captain America is not public knowledge and it will remain that way until I say otherwise. That said, if you think you can get Tony Stark to work with you if you disclose that information, you have permission to do so.”

Notes: ~160k of D/s porn (dom!Tony, sub!Steve). It's basically 100% kinky porn and is really well written - I don't usually go for dom!Tony, but this fic convinced me entirely. It's also a slight AU in that Steve's reappearance isn't public and no one knows who he is.

“Worth is entirely calculated in the mind of the man who wants something,” Tony says. He’s looking amused again, but his eyes are very dark, and his smile is sharp.

“I’m not getting you,” Steve says, but then something turns over in his mind and he realizes he’s seen this expression on Tony before. He still doesn’t get why his briefing materials had had nearly nude photoshoots from various magazines in them, but the look on his face. He’s seen that.

Tony’s eyes go a little darker and he licks his lips. “I know. That’s at least half the fun.”

Steve isn’t sure what to do faced with this... whatever this is. He hears himself say, “Prostitution is illegal, Mr. Stark.”

“Think of it more like a barter system, Captain,” Tony says, eyes half-lidded as he watches Steve. “You get to follow orders, like a good soldier. And I get to spend the next seventy-eight minutes doing unspeakable things to you.”

Freedoms I Wanted by RurouniHime

Summary: By the time Tony tips him down onto the bed, Steve has all but lost his mind.

Notes: Porn, lots of it. It's the sequel to another, equally awesome fic, but reading that one first isn't necessary.

He becomes aware that Tony is beside him again, propping his chin on one hand, the other trailing over Steve’s stomach. “I think he likes it,” Tony muses, a smirk in his voice.

“Mnph,” Steve groans, fumbling Tony into a messy kiss. He can taste himself, and the flavor of Tony’s mouth, and it’s strange, but Steve has been through stranger.

“I just want to say,” Tony states, “how honored I am to be the first to do that.”

Steve gropes around, finds Tony’s pillow, and decks him with it.

Let's Face It, This is Not the Worst Thing You've Caught Me Doing by BlossomsintheMist

Summary: Steve has never given anyone a blowjob before, but he's willing to give it a try.

Notes: I don't usually like blushing-virgin!Steve, but this fic pulls it off well.

Steve looks at him dubiously, up through his eyelashes, a seductive move that Tony is certain Steve is not pulling on purpose, especially considering the uncertain expression on his face. “We can go slow,” he promises recklessly, curls his fingers around the back of Steve’s head and tugs, just a little.

I Get a Kick Out of You by attice

Summary: He looks Steve over. He's flushed—red-faced, tousle-haired, and completely out of breath. Something is definitely wrong. Tony's first thought is this isn’t possible, quickly followed by how does this pick-up line go again?

Notes: Rough wall sex, Steve dirty talking...what's not to like?

“Are you okay?” he asks. “Steve?”

“Fine,” he mumbles, staring at Tony’s shoulder. “Bruce mixed a little something for me. Or maybe it was Thor. I don’t know.” The resolutely cheerful smile Tony associates with alcohol-induced happiness pops up over his face. “I’m drunk.”

Tony raises an unsure eyebrow. “Really.”

“Maybe,” he says, and places a hand on Tony’s thigh to steady himself. Really? How subtle. He should give Steve some pointers on flirting when he’s not totally blasted.

I Want to Teach You a Lesson (In the Worst Kind of Way) by sidium

Summary: Steve grabs him by throat, knocking the back of his head against the wall with a thud and making Tony groan.

“For once,” He says, and Tony can’t suppress a shiver at the tone, “you’re not going to question me, or contradict me. You’re going to do what I tell you to do, when I tell you to do it. No complaints, no questions. Understand?”

For one fleeting moment, Tony almost says ‘no.’ Almost.

Notes: Antagonistic power struggle sex! This is what this pairing was made for. Also, I can't find a better quote than the summary one so I'm just leaving it.

Truth by valtyr

Summary: Captain America takes truth serum. Tony is all over that.

Notes: Truth serum is the best thing. This one is actually 616, not MCU, which is why various other characters are there and why Steve references Tony's undersuit, which he (tragically) doesn't have in the MCU.

"You have truly suffered," said Tony solemnly, running his hands down over Steve's back, firm pressure making Steve sigh and arch. "How can I help?"

"Let me fuck you, and put some earplugs in," Steve said instantly, and then winced.

Firsts and Lasts by simmysim

Summary: When Tony was a kid, he thought Captain America was the ~*dreamiest*~. Cap finds out. Sex happens.

Notes: How is it possible for something to be THIS CUTE and also hot? We just don't know.

"So, how does this go?" he asks, pushing off Tony's desk, slowly cornering the other man against the door. "Did I say anything in particular? Do I sweep you off your feet?"

"The whole embarrassing scenario?" Tony asks, still smiling. "Well, most of the time I just thought about certain . . . parts of you," he says, running a hand down Steve's chest, abs, pausing suspiciously early in its decent. "And other times it wasn't about sex at all, it was just me helping you save the day. Very King Arthur. You would thank me with a kis-- oh knock it off, I was twelve."

Steve stifles his laughter as best he can. "This had better stop being adorable at some point, or it's going to be difficult to continue," he says.
